Does Failing to Prepare for Success Lead to Failure?

“Prepare for the worst and hope for the best”

This simple yet profound advice has guided me through some of life’s most challenging decisions. But have you ever stopped to think about what happens when success knocks on your door? Let’s dive into this and explore how preparing for both sides of the coin can set you up for true success.

Lately, I have been in the middle of making big decisions, and I have been asking many deep questions. The biggest question was, “What is the worst case?”

When talking about the worst case, intuitively, you will prepare to handle it, make peace with it and be ready. If you say, “Yeah, I am okay with that”, most likely, no matter how hard and impossible it seems, you will probably take the decision.

Preparing for the worst is normal. It is also a good practice for mental and expectation management.

BUT. The thing is, have you ever prepared for the best?

Imagine yourself in the future, how does it feel when you achieve it? What do you want to do after? What is next?

To know the bigger picture, you need to anticipate success. You want to know what action is needed after you achieve it. Acknowledging the worst case is the first step; it is something that keeps your feet on the ground. Setting a clear goal is something to hang on to, something that keeps you motivated when things get harder. Anticipating success is knowing what the next step is and being ready.

You need to keep walking step by step, no matter how hard and exhausting it would be when you want to hike a mountain. The top of the mountain is your goal. But, the endgame is not that, you need to strategically think and prepare for the success of reaching the top of the mountain; you want to go home safely.

So,

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and be ready for both.
